Calderoli: "Lufthansa or liberalise slots" (source: AGI)

The 'Lega' offers two options only: either choose Lufthansa as partner for new Alitalia, or liberalise Malpensa airport slots. Minister of simplification Roberto Calderoli explained that "the Lega has always had a clear idea of this issue. It has always stated that the ideal partner for Cai is Lufthansa because it is capable of guaranteeing quality services as well as guaranteeing the Malpensa and Fiumicino hubs".

Exiting from the Lega headquarters in via Bellerio, where a party meeting was held this afternoon and attended by Milan mayor Letizia Moratti and Sea president Giuseppe Bonomi, Calderoli stated that, should Lufthansa not be the chosen partner, "the government can only choose to liberalise traffic with immediate effect". "We made our position clear to Berlusconi before Christmas. Our position has been publicly supported by the prime minister. It is clear that as concerns Cai, the government can give some directions but not make decisions".
