I don't think there's an easy way around this one. Unless you can find a friend or some random Canadian who wants to fly LHR-YVR one way; tell them you'll give them a free seat in Y, book a seat in CW in their name, and then trust them to board together with your husband, and then switch boarding passes and seats once they get on the plane.
