Actually, as someone who lived in MCO for more than four years, my experience is completely different.
In all that time, I don't think I failed to get an upgrade even ONCE. It's certainly more difficult to upgrade on flights to/from ATL than any other hub... but if you route yourself through JFK, CVG or SLC, you shouldn't have a problem at all, especially as a PM.
