Sorry, I knew I'd miss out some salient information! The reasons for my routing/carrier options are due to it being a redemption trip and what is available. The UA/NZ option is available via LAX too, but I simply won't risk that routing. Unfortunately NZ is not available to either lAX or HKG for the dates I want on the out bound sector. Plus, lounges do not interest me in the least, other than if they offer showers.
