I agree. Holland, Denmark, and the rest of Scandinavia are way ahead of Germany in terms of the prevalence of English speakers. My Dutch and Danish friends always point out that part of it is that German (and French and Italian) TV stations tend to dub, while Holland and Scandinavia tend to subtitle.
That being said, I've encountered other intra-European flights where they only use the language of the carrier and English. SWISS, for example, didn't have a Danish speaker on my most recent CPH-ZRH flight. And I don't recall Danish on any CDG-CPH flights on AF.
