Given your stated patterns, it sounds like you should stay w/Southwest. It takes 25,000 miles to get a free domestic ticket on AA. 4 California roundtrips won't add up to anywhere near that amount. Furthermore, those 4 trips won't really make a significant dent toward the MM mark.
