In my opinion within the Domestic US based programs AA or United are the only ways to go for a real world class traveler.
Perhaps US AIR as a third choice but it is a step down in my reasoning based on potential earning opportunity and program versatility.
Delta NW and Cont are all on the self destructive path.( A real shame )
They could have otherwise really been a big threat to One World and Star Alliance if they combined their strengths together not their combined weakness all tossed together on a silver platter.
Missed opportunity big time !
With that said while I won't fly revenue with those programs I will earn miles with them.
They still offer some interesting possibilities for reward.
Continental sadly has brought its inflated One Pass increased mileage amounts to the redemption dept already.
This was noticed when I tried to book an Int reward ticket on NW with a variety of partners. As soon as Continental was thrown in it was 20 K more
Perhaps all carriers will be there on the chopping block in time.
The discount carriers are counting on it and so far they seem to be winning.
As some of the big carriers keep alienating the large majority of their customers.
Thankfully right now both AA and United still seem to offer a nice package of benefits despite some big blows in their respective programs as well.
They still will help make your hard earned dollars on travel go farther.
What is amazing is how long you hung in with Continental. Someone out there should appreciate your loyalty !
I can well imagine at what you went/have gone through having once myself been a Continental Gold.
I could write a book.Sigh.....
Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions regarding programs or the specifics in the way your personal travel might work related to the program itself. Welcome to more friendly skies and more versatile choices in whatever your choice.
Cheers
