Update on QF12 A380 diversion to Fiji
Pax suffered diabetic shock (not a stroke or heart attack as has been reported earlier). The stricken pax was treated and discharged the same day in Nadi (as you would expect from this illness). Presumably flew the QF 744 to SYD the next day with the other pax.
Any updates on the computer problem (which prevented takeoff after off-loading the medical emergency and caused the overnight delay in Fiji? Also, are the reports of wing spar damage from the overweight landing at NAN true? It can't have been that overweight (about 2/3 into the flight), also was able to fly the next day after inspection. Maybe this moves up its next C or D check date to be earlier (anyone know?).
Interesting to learn that the flight crew on A380 are also not QF employees but QCA, and governed by different contract terms including allowing 20 hours duty time (thus the diversion did not cause the pilots to be out of hours if there had not been a computer fault preventing takeoff).
I'm still shocked by the 75% load on this A380 LAX-SYD flight. Astonishing for late December. And a sign that the economy is really hurting!
