Actually, I think that United doen't usually give RTFCs. They usually give pretty generous vouchers for $$$ off of a future flight. To me this better since it think they can be used to pay for some/most/all of any future flight without inventory restrictions and you earn miles. This may be one of the few areas that may indeed improve after the merger.
