In my experience, FIs can be anywhere from great (Rochester Airport) to scary (Asheville Airport) or anywhere in between.

Prior to staying at an FI, I always check http://www.tripadvisor.com. Generally, one bad review won't make me not stay there, but several reviews giving a clear picture, or one review with details that are really scary, and I won't stay at the FI.
