On my last trip out of T5 which was a few weeks ago, I went through 'Fast Track' and decicded not to take my shoes off and chance it*. To my pleasant surprise I wasn't barked at even though 2 goons were stood infront of me with a clear view of me with my shoes on. Go figure!

*The over-riding factor why I didn't want to take my shoes off was because I didn't want to go through the trauma of untying and retying my shoe-laces.
