No offence Mate, but it wouldn't be the first time on FT that an airline rule gets described in that sort of fashion by someone for whom said rule proves to be desperately inconvenient....
I'm with you on the irrationality of requiring the purchase CC to be produced at check in.. BUT... if the airlines website says you
are required to do so......... (and it appears both
nutcase Natalie AND her supervisor said so... and even you describe it as an "idiotic and non-sensible
rule")
...then that doesn't leave much wiggle room!
I'll do you one better. Here's the exact language:
"Kindly note that Credit Card holder must be traveling with the passenger and should present the Credit Card used to purchase the ticket(s) at the check-in counter for verification. Royal Jordanian reserves that right to deny boarding any passenger who fails to represent the Credit Card used to purchase his ticket."
"Should" does not equal "must". And since this is on their site, but not in the Conditions of Carriage, I doubt it will hold up in court. But that's for my attorney to decide.
As for painting QAS with too broad a brush, I've done plenty of research on them in the last few days and found that others have had similar problems. I stand by my characterization of them. The highest manager I spoke to may not have been unstable like Natalie, but he was not the least bit inclined to help, nor did he seem the least bit remorseful about denying us boarding.
Let's hear from other ex-TLV travelers: do you have to show your credit card when checking in for BA flights? Natalie claimed that this was not just a TLV rule, but a global one. That makes her either a liar or terribly incompetent. Either way it's another strike against this horrid company.
