I was with you up until that last line. I have found service is not stellar on longer flights.

No, US F is not the greatest thing in the world, but I don't find it radically different than any other domestic F except the use of plastic instead of glass and the lack of IFE (which AA and NW don't have in many of their planes.)
No IFE and the use of plastic are huge differences, IMO!

To the OP, some bitter people will tell you WN is better than US F - believe that if you want, but I think it's a silly argument - like the airline or not, a wider seat with more pitch and a guarantee not to have a middle is far more than you'll get on WN. By and large on US you'll get competent service, some of it outstanding, a good meal, a comfortable chair and all you want to drink and snack on. What more do you want?
I certainly agree with your overall point that US F beats WN. But I re-state my view that without giving it a second thought, I would fly in UA E+ over US F on any flight under 3.5 hours.
