In Y+ the FA or CSM/purser will come around and tell you. Sometimes this is during boarding when you get your drink, usually just after takeoff. If they catch you using the J toilets they will politely let you know your toilets are behind you - have seen this happen numerous times.

I made the assumption on my own to use the Y lav purely because the cost of my Y+ ticket was closer to that of Y, than J ;-)
The treatment of Y+ is definately more like J than Y though (boarding, food, service, headphones, seat..) so I see it being perfectly understandable for anyone using the J rest rooms.
