I did notice the picture of your room and the red-ness had some white curtains to go with it to make it less harsh and looked pretty normal. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt regarding the decor in our room and assume that they hadn't finished it yet. It was totally red and black and we kept saying we felt like we were in either a badly decorated "house of ill repute" or some decorator felt it was fabulously soothing to have your bed and walls feel like they are screaming at you. My friend said she felt it was decorated in "anxiety" modern--which was not our taste.
And...we simply could not read in bed. No lighting for that purpose was available.
