I agree with your assesment that accusations of AS crew shamming illness are unfounded.
The point I wanted to make is that, for what ever reason (which we will know with the FAA investigation) the proper procedures for a de-icing of a plane were not followed.
What I really call into question is the difference in treatment between crew and passengers. The only ones who went to the hospital were crewmembers; all passengers were treated (if requested) at the airport, because they were uncertain of their status if they left the airport.
Remember, at the time SEA had a large backlog of passengers. For passengers to actually give up their seat and go to the hospital would mean an extra day (or more) in the airport, waiting to depart.
I am not faulting a crewmember. If they have injested de-icing fumes, they should be checked out at a medical facility. But the same goes for the passengers, without risk of loosing their seat to destination. As far as I can tell, Alaska made no offer of this.
I have to wonder why, if this was such a medical emergengy, only crewmembers went to the hospital? No passengers, only crew went to the hospital.
This was a problem caused by Alaska, yet AS only took care of its own.
Let the lawsiuts begin.
