STL FS

Mrs. Info and I stayed at the FS property within the last two weeks. We generally only stay at the airport Marriott or Renaissance if flying out, or the RC in Clayton or the Westin downtown if in town for business. We'd not stayed at the FS. Clearly the FS is the class of the lot, by far. The Westin is a converted warehouse and the odd room shapes and dimensions demonstate that fact.

I think Fraser nailed it. We were upgraded to a 15th floor room with a king bed and a really good view of The Arch. I found the food service to be one cut below what I'd expect at a truly top-notch hotel in one of the best large cities. That's not bad, just that the supply of really good waitstaff is thinner in STL than, say, NYC, ORD or SFO.

The location is a bit...well, downmarket. It's on the east side of the Interstate and in one of the parts of the city that hasn't changed a lot since 1825 or so. A historical area that's not really bad, just....different.

For those who don't have/want a car, the Metro stop from the STL airport is just about 150 yards away, or so. I didn't measure it. One can get off the plane and board the light railway at the airport terminal. It isn't a quick 15 minute journey but better qualtiy than, say, the Blue Line from O'Hare to downtown. Certainly no worse.

The property requires a key to get off the entry floor and go up to the rooms, which is higher security than many hotels. The pool looked like it would be fun in good weather.

The Westin is way closer to the Cardinals baseball park. The FS is way closer to the Edward Jones Dome. Both are on or near the light rail link, the Westin RIGHT on it.
