I could accept this as a valid comparison if the reason that your co-worker got into he hospital was a national news story. I don't know why your co-worker was in the hospital so I can't comment on if it's newsworthy or not. But because the CO wreck was national news, I think that LK visiting the pilot in Denver is in fact newsworthy. This is from the perspective of a member of the working broadcast media. If I were a news director or assignment editor in DEN or IAH I would have given this prominent placement in the evening strip.
A a very frequent flyer on CO, I was darn glad to read this and think that the press release was proper. Every editor will have his own decision on whether this is newsworthy or not. We all have PR Newswire either as a standalone printer or a feed into a newsgathering editorial system.
