The food and wine in Cape Town is wonderful for what it is, but even the very best places (such as La Colombe - where I lunched on Saturday, and rated the No.1 in South Africa in one of the above links) are not of the same level of sophistication as the best London restaurants (e.g. The Capital, Pied-a-Terre, Tom Aikens, GR at RHR) let alone the best in Bray.

Cape Town is great for beautifully cooked and very high quality fish, shellfish and game; often eaten al fresco and in delightful surroudings. It's still hard to spend more than about £35 per head on a meal even in the very top places, and the style of dining is so light and relaxed that it is safe to plan to eat both lunch and dinner in a top-flight restaurant every day.
