I once received unsolicitited compensation ($200 TCV) from CO. IAH-CDG went mechanical en route....diverted to EWR where we were met by the fire engines on the side of the runway--just a precaution--if it had been a really big deal we'd have diverted to YYZ as we were practically there when they started the diversion....CO put us up in a hotel some 30 miles away from EWR...we left the next morning once another 777 arrived at EWR....arrived 12 hours late.
