Larry put a nice gift in my OP stocking.
I was in the IAH snow debacle the evening of December 10. CO 1889 IAH - SMF left on time ast 6:38 PM,
then sat on the taxiways for 6.5 hours awaiting de-icing. The FA's were excellent. Free headsets for coach, showed 2 movies, did full meal service while we were still on the ground. The obnoxious cretin in 1C exhausted his favorite brand in the FC and Y liquor cabinets.
Took off after midnight, climbed to altitude. I snoozed.
Then we ran out of gas, and had to stop in LAS to tank up.
Arrived in Sacremento 10.75 hours later. This was by far my longest (time) domestic flight.
I am thankful for:
1. EUA seat 1D

2. FC food is MUCH better than coach food. :-:
3. It wasn't the heat of summer. The cabin environment stayed comfortable, even though the pilot shut down the engines often to save fuel. I sat on a taxiway in DCA one hot August afternoon for 2.5 hours

, and almost melted. The APU can't make cold air, and the main engines at idle don't make much bleed air, not enough to cool the cabin.
4. Positive attitude of the Flight Attendants, though they were being inconvenienced, too.
When I checked my account today, I saw a nice block of OP spendable miles had been credited as "Customer Care Compensation". ^ Santa COLarry made my day!
I have not made any sort of complaint. Unfortunately in American society, the squeeky wheel often gets the grease

, which means that us non-complainers often get overlooked. Not this time.
SO -
If you were also in this IAH snow de-icing mess, did you get an early Christmas present, too?
Have you ever received unsolicited "Customer Care Compensation" ?? How much, for what size inconvenience?
