Skyteam China Pass:
http://www.skyteam.com/about/products/china.html
If you have VERY specific travel plans in China, it should be possible to save some money. For most, the scheme is a money loser, but it might work for a small %
The way I can see it working is like this:
1) You are travelling to China on a Skyteam flight
2) You need to take some realtively long internal flights
3) You are certain about the timing of the first one before you arrive in China
4) You are travelling to cities with decent CZ coverage
So that knocks out 99%.....but for the remaining 1% the saving works like this. The minimum cost of a single leg is around USD100 (maybe EUR, the website is confused) which is about RMB680. There are quite a few flights that never get close to this booked via Chinese TA/hotel/ctrip. eg PEK-SZX standard fare is RMB1750 and I rarely see it much less than RMB1400. You can redeem a China Pass voucher for this for a cost of RMB680
You don't get Sky Team miles booking this way but the rules for getting miles on CZ flights are quite tight in any case
As I said, you would have to be pretty confident of where you were going to go in China to make it worth your while but I could see it being a money saver if the pax fits into the criteria above. There's plenty of PEK-CAN/SZX traffic and these should always be significantly cheaper this way (and CZ has good coverage on these routes)
