Was surprised when, as a 1K, I was not able to apply my systemwide upgrades to a Feb. coach LAX-LHR/CDG-LAX booking... I was told that it is booked as an "S" class fare and even a 1K can't upgrade that. Granted the fare is pretty low (under $800 rt) but I hadn't had this happen before.

Does anyone have any different experiences?

Also, are people still being offered the same-day (relatively) inexpensive upgrades on the day of flight at the airport?
