Anyone had experience with damage to an Alamo rental? I rented a Jeep on Maui last week, using a credit card that offers no loss-waiver protection, and I declined all coverage. While parked at a beach lot with top and windows down, some low-life tried to break into the locked glove compartment.

They only succeeded in breaking the handle off--it stayed securely locked, and if they'd gotten in, all they'd have gotten was a pair of prescription glasses. I feared Alamo would try to gig me for parts and labor on the repair plus a couple days' lost rental income, so it seemed easier to drive to the island's Dodge dealer, pay $60 for a replacement latch assembly and replace it myself, which I did. Was this the cheapest way to handle the situation, or what would you have done differently?
Lol, I think you should've taken the waiver protection!
However, I would've done the same.
