Thai canceled its part of UA award ticket--what to do?

After offering advice to the honeymooner who posted here after Thai canceled a leg of his award flight to Asia, I find that the shoe's on the other foot--my own!

My wife and I have C Award tix to Hong Kong and then Phuket next month. In view of the honeymooner's experience and the more general TG and BKK disruptions, I thought I'd better check our trip. I learned the following bad news:

1/16: ANA: SFO-HKG by way of Narita--still fine
1/22: Thai: HKG-Phuket--Thai canceled the flight, but I was able to rebook a day earlier (1/21), so a bit of a disappointment but not a big problem
2/1: Thai: Phuket-Bangkok--Thai also canceled this one, which is the problem. There are no alternatives available that day.
2/2 (early, which is why we have to fly to Bangkok on 2/1): ANA: Bangkok-SFO. Again, still fine.

It looks UA can get us out of Phuket on 2/2, connecting 2/3 on UA back to SFO. We'd much rather leave on 2/1 though, since we're already pushing my wife's vacation days as is, plus would rather fly ANA than UA.

Also, UA is checking with TG to see if it can get us on a 2/1 flight from Phuket to Bangkok.

So...not such a horrible situation, certainly. But do you think it's worth pressing UA to press TG hard if the latter won't reinstate our 2/1 flight--I mean, it's not as though TG has a shortage of flights from Phuket to Bangkok--or should we just accept that this is the way it is if the first response from TG is no?

The two cautionary aspects of this experience are: 1) UA didn't inform me of the canceled flights! That's really bad. 2) Especially involving TG these days, but also more generally, it's important to reconfirm award and other tix.
