The agents have nothing to do with the OLCI 24 hour standby or the $25 confirm and should have never put you on the standby list the day before. Most will have no clue what you are talking about. It's like asking a telephone agent about an online only airfare special. I imagine s/he may get in trouble if someone catches them doing this for you. It can only be done online the day before. The $25 same day confirm can only be done online or at the kiosk on the day of departure.
Last I tried it, you could standby/confirm flights after your departure time as long as it is not over 24 hours in the future so I am not sure what missydarlin is talking about. If you check in 24 hours ahead of time you will have no future options to choose from.
