I'm confused on this standby issue. The official standby rule is (from AS website):

Rule 116AS: "Standby is permitted on the same day for flights for which the fare is applicable and when allowed by the rule of the fare. Any service charges will be waived. Note: For time specific fares - standby is permitted within the specified time period. For flight specific fares - standby is permitted for the specified flights."

The rule says that standby is permitted on the same day of the original flight. So if I try fly the day before or the day after I should be denied. However, from the previous posts it seems that OLCI and some agents will (sometimes) allow you to standby for a flight the day before. What is the actual standby policy that AS adheres to?
