I think the max time a bag can remain in a city is 4 hours... after that it must be claimed and rechecked on the carrier- not sure on AS->AA cxns or AA->AAitnl cxns...
Since you are flying int'l eventually, AS may waive the baggage fee... since in their int'l contract of carriage its mentioned... but it all depends on how long your connections are at the 'fare breaks' and how much partying you do in LAS I guess (or how many snowmen you make on the the tarmac

I was hoping to interline the bags - check them in BZN and not see them again until customs at SAP.
I have 3.5 hours in Vegas (the only place where I actually change airlines). So, it sounds like AS should check them at least through to MIA? Unfortunately, I have 6.5 hours in MIA...so American may make me claim and recheck (no airline transfer there though).
The question then becomes, who is responsible for charging AA's fee - is it the Horizon agents in BZN? I have MVPG on AS, and certainly won't have more than 2 bags, so there should be no AS bag fees.
I suppose there's a chance that by the time I show all of my itineraries and record locators, everyone will be so confused that they'll forget to charge the fees!
