I'd been considering an award stay at this hotel, so have just reserved a stay on the weekend of Jan 3-4 to beat the Jan 15 deadline.
I've read very mixed reports of the Pavillion building. Does anyone who has stayed here have experience of being able to upgrade from the Pavillion to Palace building when on an award stay? I'm a lowly Starwood Gold.

The Pavillion Building is nice, the rooms renovated, tasteful modern furniture.
I got upgraded (SPG Gold) to the Palace building from my second stay on. If this was the reason I do not know, the hotel was not fully booked as well the last times I have staid there. Aah, I remember my first stay there was an upgrade offer: 50 EUR in connection with a reward stay (C&P), after that I did not see this offer anymore.
Palace building has superb rooms in various styles, e.g. with fireplace.
Maybe you call them and ask if they can arrange something, it is even worth to pay an additional fee of 50 EUR per room to stay in the Palace building.
