Well, that would require the Mexican authorities to change their system and would affect domestic Mexican flights and possibly flights to other destinations, too. If anything, we should adopt our system to theirs...
The secondary screening thing isn't unique to PVR, though. I received a secondary screen at ORY last week, and a sign posted near the security setup just outside the gate area with a TSA logo said that the screening was because the French standards do not meet TSA approval. (I find that strange, because LHR doesn't require a secondary screening and presumably has similar screening standards, which I would assume are EU-wide...and you could theoretically bypass the secondary screening in France by flying France-UK-US...). They recognized my can of Perrier as coming from the sterile area (not sure how, since it wasn't labeled as such) and let me keep it, however.
