I share this view. I recently stayed at a RC under a "buy 3 get one free" promo that gave me a free night. That essentially knocked $450 or so off my bill.

Another thing that I've seen is a willingness to accommodate small groups in unique ways. A golf pro that I know said that a RC property invited him to bring up to 7 guests with him to create his own "mini-golf school", despite the fact that they have their own golf professionals on staff. He can bring 7 of his clients and do all of the instructing that he wants, the group gets 18 holes of golf each day, unlimited use of the range, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and other amenities all for a reasonable, fixed price. While specific rack rates may not come down a lot, I think flexibility on packages and discounts for extended stays will be prevalent.
