I have not seen this either when I have rented. I have been charged a slightly higher rate at LAX for a one day rental -- it was something like $10-$15 higher rate.

Usually, I see as posted above that the one day is not available. I'll extend my reservation to two or sometimes three days and I can reserve a car.
