So, all of your flying is domestic. In this case, it's $50/flight to upgrade. It also means that you can use e500s and CR-1s to upgrade without paying the co-pay. Personally, even as a 1K of 9 years, I rarely used miles to upgrade flights and still managed to upgrade 50% of my flights. I realize that you may use miles and want to upgrade 100% of the time, but IMHO $50 isn't bad.
Except for those of us who regularly fly to Hawaii for business. Those 15,000 mile upgrades sure are (were) nice on that 14 hour trip from the east coast. I'd pay $50 in a heartbeat, but there is no way I can afford $500 each way (particularly to sit in 2-class F).
