I even tried bidding up to $950 on Priceline, but nothing has been accepted.

I can't find anything ... Anyone have any thoughts?
It's too bad you weren't looking a bit earlier. The was a $460 or so fare, LAX-SYD a couple of months ago. I think it was on one of the Virgin budget airlines.

Korean does fly to SYD and MEL, I think. You're going to have to concentrate on Skyteam partners, instead of a NW flight. There are also some Chinese airlines that might go there.

You can go to http://www.skyteam.com/ and find out more info, including a downloadable program that shows which partner flies to which destination.
