There is, of course, the option of just booking two seats that are either one infront of the other, or one across the aisle from the other (i.e. 1A and 2A, or 2A and 2D) - if it is a night flight then you will probably spend most of it sleeping anyway, so you can eat together on the window seat and sleep in your respective seats
