Well, if I am wrong please correct me, but my understanding is the following: If you have 0 points in your account and starwood wants to deduct points (6 months later) nothing else will happen, apart from the fact that you then have to pay the negative starwood balance off.

So the only negative drawback is that you can not use the next ie 20,000 points for yourself, because starwood will deduct those points immediately.

Any objections?

However, points would definitely be deducted if you have approved the redemption for a free night stay, regardless of how long it takes to do so. But, whether a courtesy note should be sent in this case, I would have to review further.
