I ended up paying $200 for a non-tower room, which was a Hilton Honors Triple Point rate and appropriate as this was a miles and points trip. The room was decent enough - the furnishings were in great shape and the bed was quite comfortable, though the bathroom was showing its age and the shower couldn't run at full blast because the water diverter wouldn't close all the way. I was on the 9th floor, overlooking West Century Boulevard and LAX. The curtains did a great job of blocking outside light and the noise from the runways wasn't much bother.
Opted not to walk down the street for food, so had a drink at the Landings bar ($6.50 + tip for a gin & tonic with the house gin) and dinner at the Cafe ($22 + tip for a chicken quesadilla, a slice of cake, and iced tea). (Went to In-N-Out for lunch the next day when I had a car.)
I didn't have a lot of contact with the staff, just for checking in, eating, and at the Hertz desk, but everyone was friendly and efficient.
I virtually never spend $200 of my own $ for a night in a hotel, but the triple points, another night toward the Hilton Racing promo, and a location allowing me to rent a car for one day instead of two made it worth in this case.
