my sisters is an AA elite. so when we checked in, we checked in using the first class line. there were ZERO questions asked. my sister inquired about upgrading, but unfortunately only 1 seat was available that day. so she didn't do it. on our return, we again checked in using the first class line at LHR and there were no questions asked. you're pretty safe. don't have to worry about checking in online or something...
