I wish they would, but not necessarily a fair trade to let someone with diabetes go through with a soda just because they bought it at a grocery store.

That is exactly right, all legal liquids should be allowed past the checkpoint. Technology exist to check liquids as other countries have proven. TSA has its collective head where the sun doesn't shine.

It's a case by case situation, ultimately left up to TSA and their belief that you are telling the truth about the items you are carrying through. I would suggest that you have a doctor's note about why you need such items when you are flying.

Nothing TSA has published requires a "Doctors Note" and in my opinion my medical situation is of no business to a front line TSO. If a TSO wants to practice medicine then I will call on you or one of your fellow LEO's and file a complaint.

I will say that carrying normal everyday drinks through because of "diabetes" is not going to fly (no pun intended). Although I work at the airport, I rarely buy anything because of the inflated prices as well (even with a small discount), but that's not going to be an effective excuse for attempting to bring your BigK generic cola through.
A normal everyday full sugar soda, Coke, Pepsi, and such are an excellent source of glucose and can elevate BG rapidly if needed. It should not be up to any unqualified TSO to determine a persons source of glucose.
