Ha ha...In Germany, this one bites me all the time. The agents nearly always make me take my battery powered Gillette razor out of my carry on and remove the battery and slide it through again. Sometimes they have not re xrayed it, but simply had me turn it on.
I have never had to remove anything from my shoes, in the US. I always place my money clip inside my shoes, though once a TSA agent saw the money clip and hap me put it back in my pocket.
