I have been pondering the same. I got 6,500 from my last stay so another one would get me 18,500. For me, though, with 120k points balance, it is NOT a no-brainer. Whilst it is easy to theoretically work out ways of spending 18,500 points that get you more than £60 of value, IN PRACTICE I find this difficult.
My personal tastes (upscale tastes, work full-time) mean I tend to redeem only at IC's and at weekends, and this means that I am comparing 80,000 points to a BOGO 2-4-1 deal. On this basis, 18,500 points is not worth £60 to me. If, of course, you are likely to be in New York soon and can snaffle midweek rooms at The Barclay for 40,000 points, then you'd consider £60 for 18,500 points a bargain.
I would do it for a £35 property but none of those in Central London!
Yes i can see your line of thinking. It indeed all depends what you have planned with the 18000(or in my case perhaps 21000).I have planned usage either at an IC or &/or on PB nights:which i am assuming will soon come in thick and fast as the global economy topples over a cliff.
