CO and UA are not merging. They are each keeping an independent loyalty program. The only change between now and a year(-ish) from now is the partners that will be accessible using the miles.
just remembered for a high-redemption tirp, i could just use CO mile for 1-way and UA on the return
what is interesting is whether CO will also "filter" *net and/or whether UA will filter CO seats !!!
