Last year everyone was "burning all my SPG points and moving to Marriott due to SPG's devaluation". The year before that was "Hilton just destroyed their program, I'm moving to Starwood". All of the programs are constantly moving - I wouldn't go out of my way to burn points/miles just to burn points/miles.

All programs are devaluing, as stated. I think you're better off to keep moderate balances and burn then as you earn them. I'd like to keep all programs at enough for 2-3 flights/a week-long stay and burn it back down when it gets higher. I've burned 1.2M in US points over the last 3 years in anticipation of this outcome. Unfortunately, I can burn hotel points fast enough.
