So now is the time to decide where to stay! We will probably do 3-4 nights at somewhere close to the water then another 3-4 up in the middle of the island. We have had a few friends that have stayed at both of the Four Seasons and really enjoyed them. How do the Aman resorts compare, especially differences in the atmosphere and "feel." Any other places we should keep an eye out for - I have heard a bit about the ghm hotels?

GHM on Bali are nowhere near as good as elsewhere, in my opinion. The Legian (GHM) has a nice beach, but service is a bit so-so. The Amans are very hard to beat, unless you prefer larger resorts, in which case the FS resorts - Jimbaran and Sayan make a good mix between beach (Jimbaran) and jungle (Sayan). Both have good spas and restaurants. Also, Jimbaran has just finished a big refurbishment, so all the villas are newly re-modelled and now have more light and nicer outdoor areas.
