BA874 Fantastic CSD/Terrible Staff experience at T5

I wonder if anyone off this board was on my flight last thursday 4/12/08 BA874 LHR to DME?

The aircraft developed a technical fault which prevented it from landing in DME's fog (the cynic in me wonders if they had the fault before take off as there was a lot of fiddling around going on). We therefore had to turn 180 degrees and head back to LHR where the plane could safely land.

Very few passengers in CE, but some were obviously furious. I wasn't over the moon, but in those situations I don't see the point in stressing myself out.

The CSD on the flight was fantastic (and the crew very good)|, however. Better not post her name on here, but it began with a "J" and she reminded me of what I like about BA. It's touching when members of staff go out of their way to be helpful to customers, which she did. Of course I left a compliment online, as it's all too easy to only ever complain about things!

That said, once on the ground, the treatment at the transfers desk was shocking. There were a few DYKWIAs kicking off perhaps a bit harshly, but still. The lady who was head of the transfer desk told us we would never make the alternative Transaero flight from T1. "We've called them - you're not going to make it", she continually bleated at us. To which we responded that we'd also called the airline and they'd told us it would be fine as we only had hand luggage. She wouldn't have it that we would get on that flight. A true jobsworth who just didn't seem to want to help us - bear in mind we were also flying in CE and are GCHs. But they should treat every passenger well (not least because they could be high revenue earners one day), anyway...

We managed to waste at least 15 minutes with her, and nearly did miss the flight because of this, but thankfully made it with 10 seconds to spare - no joke!

Best to let these things go, but I think my colleague has the woman's name and the irrational angry side of me would love to let her know that we made it on the flight (and would have made it even smoother if she hadn't bothered arguing with us!) so that in future she might be a bit more helpful to other passengers, or move to a job that doesn't involve dealing with customers.

Rant over!
