Northwest has much better reward availability on partners like KLM, and that's what I'm interested in booking.

I would be VERY surprised if you will ever be able to transfer SkyMiles into WorldPerks (or vice versa). You won't be able to do anything until accounts are merged (and we've been told that this is many months away).
