I've had a rather unpleasant experience with just this. A person I barely knew once asked me through a mutual friend if they could have some miles for an upcoming trip. Apparently, they had heard that I had a lot of miles and obviously thought that they were "free" and that I obviously could spare some, although this person would have never asked for money. It put me (but apparently not them nor the mutual friend, at least knowingly) in an uncomfortable situation.
Talking about miles, upgrades, status, and premium-class travel is a double-edged sword. I think that most of us here are generally enthusiastic about such matters, and like to share this with others, and not out of a sense of bragging. But I think one has to be careful, and not just for the reason that most people may think we're crazy
