I wouldn't pay almost $2k for the possibility of upgrades. Given the hit and miss that Platinum members report domestically, I'd pocket the money and use it towards airfare to a great vacation destination. If I planned to travel internationally, I'd consider it. Otherwise, no.

BTW, wasn't Starwood running a promo where you received double stay credit for each night? Is that over?
