Upgrading Elites with Lap children!?
I am sorry to bring up this issue once again but I wanted to get the opinion of people on this board. I bought a first class ticket to fly up to ORD over the Thanksgiving Holiday. (In case anyone is wondering I was on flight 459 on 11/26.) I boarded in the middle of the boarding process and everything seemed fine. Then it happened. The first screaming baby of this flight entered the door with their parents and instead of going past the curtain they sat down in F. I started to down my pre-departure bloody mary as fast as possible in an attempt to not care about this screaming child. Well, needless to say at the end of the boarding process there were 4 babies up in first class screaming in unison (which continued through the entire flight!!!). Since my ticket was fully refundable I thought about bolting towards the door before it closed and just go on the next flight. As I used my phone to see the PDA Continental site I noticed that all but one of the children's parents were upgrades. In fact the one couple with the baby in seats 2A/B who actually paid for their ticket was the only baby of the bunch that was controlled and did not scream for the majority of the flight. THANK YOU!!! Since this flight is the only flight with "dinner" served I decided just to have a few more drinks and hope my noise canceling headphones would lessen the noise. When the dinner service started the parents of screamer #1 got up and paced in the aisle in an attempt to quiet the baby down. This not only slowed the service down but made the screaming go from loud to soft, loud to soft. The man sitting behind me kept mumbling various words that cannot be used on this site about the child and actually wanted to tell the parents to go to the back galley because "they where upgrades and he did not pay to sit in F with a screaming child". This raised a question that I did not know the answer to... Being an ex CO corporate employee myself I know that NRSA passengers are not allowed to be upgraded to F/BF with children under 5 to keep the "integrity of the cabin". Is there a rule in place for Elites regarding upgrading lap children with the parents? Since this rule is in place for the CO employees I do not see why any lap child should be able to violate the integrity of the cabin. I must say that the integrity of the F class cabin of this flight was violated! I totally agree that parents who both pay for F (or anyone who pays for F) should be allowed to have A (singular) lap child (per person), but why should Elites be able to ruin the experience for those of us that raise CO yields in the forward cabin and actually pay to be up there. Does CO have a policy regarding this and the agent at the gate just was not informed? I really feel that unless parents pay for F (Not Y upgraded to F because you are Elite) the lap babies should remain in the back! If a policy is not in place and this is allowed to continue I feel that CO employees should be able to bring their children up to F/BF as well. It is obvious that CO knows that this is an issue since they have a rule in place for their own employees. Thoughts? Comments?
