Back onto topic.
There are more reasons to why I don't sleep on the job than the fact that with 37 teenagers present it could be dangerous. My job is also to make sure that everything is safe. I constantly scan the crowd, when I am teaching the lesson, speaking to individuals, giving a test. I need to identify the problems before the happen, or at least before they get too bad.
I see that as the FA's job as well. They are not only trained for emergencies, but also to stop potential emergencies. A great FA not only takes care of our requests for drinks, etc, but KNOWS what is happening in that cabin. They are great readers of body language, mood, etc, and are ready to de-escalate situations.
I hope he wasn't deathly sick. But seriously- those missing eyes could have had dire consequences. There is a Reason there are minimum crew requirements.
